The Qatari Cabinet reiterated Qatar’s strong condemnation of the attack targeting the LNG tanker Al-Mayda, owned by Qatar Gas Transport Companies Limited (Qatargas), while it was navigating the Arabian Gulf, describing the incident as a serious act that threatens the safety of maritime navigation and the security of global energy supplies.
Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported that this statement was issued during the Council’s regular meeting held yesterday at the Diwan Amiri, presided over by Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.
The Council affirmed that Qatar reserves the right to take all necessary measures in accordance with international law and the UN Charter to protect its assets, safeguard its interests, and ensure the safety of its vessels and crews. It followed up on the investigations being conducted by the competent authorities to ascertain the circumstances of the incident and identify those responsible.
The Council warned against the dangers of such reckless and irresponsible practices and their potentially severe repercussions on the security and stability of the region and the global economy, particularly given the risks they pose to the marine environment and water security for countries in the region.
