US President Donald Trump said that Democrats have been in contact and want to discuss a number of issues, describing this as “a good thing,” in his first remarks since Republicans lost the congressional elections. He said, “I’m likely to reach an agreement with the Democrats, unless they want to be destructive,” while simultaneously affirming that his administration has the authority to use the veto if it disagrees with Democratic actions. Trump added, “If my name had been on the ballots, we would have won the elections,” noting that there are currently two candidates to lead the Republicans in the House of Representatives. On the Iranian issue, Trump reiterated his defense of his decision regarding war with Iran, stating that if he were given the chance to make the decision again, “I would make the same decision.” He added that he had expected oil prices to rise much more sharply as a result of the war with Iran, while reaffirming his commitment to preventing Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons.
