Egypt’s Supreme Council for Media Regulation has banned Hossam Hassan, the head coach of the Egyptian national football team, from appearing in the media, following the controversy sparked by his disputes with his ex-wife, Dina Mostafa, widely known in the media as “Dan Adam.”
The council announced a package of measures aimed at protecting citizens’ privacy and preventing the dissemination of family disputes through media outlets and digital platforms, amid escalating media coverage of the personal crisis facing the Egyptian national team coach. In a statement, the council clarified that its decisions include “banning Hossam Hassan, head coach of the senior Egyptian national football team, from appearing on all media outlets subject to the provisions of Press and Media Regulation Law No. 180 of 2018, effective from the date of issuance of the decision.”
The council also decided to summon legal representatives of several websites for hearings due to their violation of privacy-respect regulations, and reaffirmed the continued enforcement of its previous decision banning Dan Adam from appearing in the media.
The council warned that legal action would be taken against media institutions that continue to publish details of family disputes or disregard its decisions, emphasizing that resolving personal conflicts falls under the jurisdiction of investigative authorities and the judiciary.
Although the statement did not specify the duration of the ban on Hossam Hassan’s media appearances, Al-Masry Al-Youm newspaper quoted a senior council source as saying that the decision does not cover press conferences related to national team affairs or news coverage of his sporting activities. The decision came amid escalating tensions between Hossam Hassan and his ex-wife, which escalated into a media and legal dispute marked by mutual accusations and statements that sparked widespread debate in Egypt.
On Monday, lawyers Ahmed Moustafa Mansour and Amir Moustafa Mansour filed a complaint with the Public Prosecutor on behalf of the Egyptian national team coach, accusing his ex-wife, Dina Mostafa, of forgery in a customary document and bigamy.
