The Central Bank of Kuwait announced the launch of “Barwa,” an identity for the local payment card in the State of Kuwait, in a move aimed at reinforcing the national identity of payment instruments and drawing inspiration from Kuwait’s heritage.
The bank explained, via its official account on the X platform, that “Barwa” will operate within the national payments system under the supervision of the Central Bank of Kuwait, thereby strengthening the connection between local payment instruments and Kuwaiti identity.
It noted that the choice of the name “Barwa” is based on its heritage-related connotations associated with proving ownership and safeguarding rights, clarifying that this legacy served as inspiration in designing the identity of the country’s local payment card.
The introductory message for the new identity featured the slogan “Barwa… A Legacy of Trust, Extending into the Future,” reflecting the link between the name’s heritage roots and the direction toward developing the local payments system.
