Kuwait officials: The Criminal Court sentenced two separate drug cases to death yesterday. The first case involved Lebanese defendants convicted of trafficking in narcotics and psychoactive substances, as well as their use. The second case resulted in the death sentence of an Indian defendant for attempting to smuggle psychoactive substances into the country using an unconventional method: soaking 100 A4-sized sheets with the drugs and hiding them inside a carton shipment of shoes imported from abroad.

The Public Prosecution charged the Lebanese defendants with possession of narcotics and psychoactive substances with intent to traffic and use, while the Indian defendant was charged with attempting to smuggle psychoactive substances into the country. Both cases were referred to the Criminal Court, which issued the death sentences.

Regarding the details of the first case, information received by the General Administration for Combating Narcotics about the activities of two Lebanese nationals in possessing narcotics and psychoactive substances for trafficking and use led to necessary investigations. They were subsequently apprehended, and various quantities of prohibited substances were found in their possession. The seized items included two kilograms of marijuana, 400 grams of hashish, half a kilogram of “chemical,” 6,000 “Larica” capsules, three sensitive scales, and a quantity of nylon bags used for preparing and packaging the substances.

The second case concerned an Indian national who attempted to smuggle psychoactive substances concealed within 100 A4 sheets soaked with the drugs, hidden inside a carton shipment of shoes imported from abroad. The attempt was uncovered, and coordination between the General Customs Administration and the General Administration for Combating Narcotics led to his arrest and referral to the competent authorities, including the Public Prosecution.

In a separate ruling, the Second Circuit of the Criminal Court sentenced a Kuwaiti citizen to life imprisonment and fined her 50,000 dinars after convicting her of trafficking in psychoactive substances and using them, as well as driving a vehicle under their influence. The court also ordered the suspension of her driver’s license for one year. The judgment followed investigations conducted by officers of the General Administration for Combating Narcotics, which monitored the suspect’s activities and raised suspicions of her involvement in trafficking psychoactive substances. An ambush operation resulted in her arrest, and subsequent arrest and investigation procedures revealed her possession of the substances in question and her use of them.
