The State of Qatar expressed its strong condemnation and outrage over the attack targeting the LNG carrier Al-Maiyah, owned by Qatar Gas Transport Companies Limited (Qatargas), while it was navigating in the Arabian Gulf. Qatar condemned the incident as a dangerous act that threatens the safety of maritime navigation and the security of global energy supplies.
In a statement, the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed that Qatar reserves the right to take all necessary measures in accordance with international law and the United Nations Charter to protect its assets, safeguard its interests, and ensure the safety of its ships and crews. It noted that the relevant authorities have launched investigations to ascertain the circumstances of the incident and identify those responsible.
The ministry warned of the dangers posed by these reckless and irresponsible practices and their potentially severe repercussions on regional security and stability, as well as the global economy, particularly the potential environmental risks resulting from attacks on energy tankers and their hazardous impacts on the marine environment and water security in the countries of the region.
