Mustafa Khair Allah, Director of Media at the General Authority for Civil Aviation and Air Transport in Syria, confirmed that air navigation and operational activities at Damascus International Airport are proceeding normally and regularly. He noted that the fire that broke out in the second terminal, which is under construction, has not affected aircraft movements or flight schedules, adding that the airport continues to receive and dispatch flights according to its usual timetable.
In a statement to the Syrian official news agency, SANA, Khair Allah said that initial data indicate the limited fire on the roof of the second terminal under construction was caused by an accidental technical fault during the execution of waterproofing works on the new building’s roof. He pointed out that the fire’s damage was confined to material losses, with no human injuries reported.
He added, “We reiterate that the airport continues to operate normally, and that the safety of passengers and staff, as well as ensuring the continuity of operational activities, remain a fundamental priority for the General Authority for Civil Aviation and Air Transport.”
