The acting German ambassador to Damascus, Marcus Hicken, denied yesterday that his country had issued any new travel warnings regarding Syria, affirming that previous guidelines remain unchanged. In a statement to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), Hicken clarified that the latest update issued by the German Foreign Office pertains to regional developments and does not involve any changes to the guidelines concerning Syria. This clarification comes amid ongoing Syrian-German diplomatic contacts aimed at discussing bilateral relations and ways to enhance cooperation between the two countries, as well as following up on shared files in the coming period.
On September 10, the acting Syrian ambassador to Berlin, Muhammad Bara’a Shukri, met with German State Minister for Foreign Affairs Serap Güler to discuss bilateral relations and follow up on the work of the Syrian-German Joint Committee. According to the Syrian embassy’s statement at the time, the meeting addressed several issues of mutual interest and prospects for strengthening cooperation between the two countries.
Previously, in June, Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Asaad Hassan Al-Shaybani discussed with Güler in Damascus the implementation of the outcomes of President Ahmad al-Sharaa’s visit to Berlin and steps to activate the Syrian-German partnership.
