Cairo – Khadija Hamouda: Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi held talks with his Hungarian counterpart András Bárándy in Budapest, discussing ways to strengthen bilateral relations and expand cooperation between the two countries, alongside developments in regional and international issues of mutual interest.
President el-Sisi was accorded an official welcome ceremony at Kossuth Square in front of the Hungarian Parliament building, which included the playing of both national anthems and an honor guard review, before he proceeded to Heroes’ Square to lay a wreath at the official memorial, and then to the Sándor Palace, the presidential residence, for the negotiations.
During the meeting, el-Sisi emphasized Egypt’s pride in its historical ties with Hungary and its commitment to further developing them, particularly as the centenary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries approaches in 2028. He stressed the importance of building on the Strategic Partnership Declaration signed in 2023 and translating it into practical projects and programs that serve shared interests, including infrastructure cooperation under the “Decent Life” initiative, as well as ongoing projects in several sectors, notably railways.
The talks also covered security cooperation, Egypt’s efforts to combat illegal immigration, and the importance of holding regular meetings of the Supreme Joint Committee, along with enhancing trade exchange and tourism and cultural cooperation. El-Sisi extended an invitation to the Hungarian President to visit Egypt.
For his part, the Hungarian President underscored the importance of Egypt as a partner for his country, praising its role in supporting security and stability in the Middle East region and its efforts to combat illegal immigration. He also affirmed his country’s understanding of the significance of the Nile River to Egypt.
The discussions addressed several regional and international issues, with el-Sisi outlining Egypt’s vision for achieving security and stability and resolving crises and conflicts through peaceful means.
At the conclusion of the visit, the Hungarian President hosted a luncheon in honor of el-Sisi, who reaffirmed the deep bonds of friendship and mutual respect between the two countries and expressed his anticipation of strengthening the strategic partnership and elevating it to broader horizons.
