Minister of Education: Digital Transformation a Key Pillar in Educational System Reform and Teacher Empowerment Plan

Alaa Khalifa: Education Minister Eng. Sayed Jalal Al-Tabtabaie held discussions with a delegation from Google Cloud regarding the latest developments in joint digital education projects, and ways to enhance the use of modern technologies and artificial intelligence to support the educational process, improve the efficiency of educational staff, and enhance learning outcomes.

These discussions took place during a meeting attended by Education Minister Al-Tabtabaie, in the presence of Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education Dr. Khaled Al-Rashid and several ministry executives, with Mazen Abdullah, Director of the Education Sector for the Middle East, North Africa, and South Asia, and Shimaa Al-Turkiet, Regional Director for Google Cloud in Kuwait, along with several company representatives. The meeting focused on monitoring ongoing projects, reviewing their implementation stages, and discussing proposed technical solutions to develop them and maximize their utility in the educational field.

The meeting also reviewed the latest developments of the “Smart School” Albus project, whose pilot phase launched at Jamana bint Abi Talib Secondary School. The two sides discussed implementation stages, technical and operational challenges facing the project, and proposed digital solutions to address them. They also explored mechanisms to measure the project’s impact on educational practices, teacher efficiency, and student engagement levels, contributing to an evaluation of the trial’s results and identifying opportunities for future expansion.

Additionally, the meeting discussed developments in the project to train male and female teachers on using artificial intelligence tools provided by Google for Education, which targets more than 40,000 teachers. The discussion covered monitoring implementation stages and expanding the scope of benefits to enhance the digital skills of educational staff, support the development of teaching methods, prepare educational content, and design classroom activities using modern technologies.

The meeting also addressed opportunities to develop innovative digital solutions that respond to the needs of the educational field, enhance integration between systems and educational platforms, and focus on improving performance efficiency, simplifying procedures, and practically and sustainably deploying technology to serve school environment requirements and support the educational development journey.

Minister Al-Tabtabaie emphasized the importance of continuing to monitor digital projects according to clear performance indicators and measuring their actual impact on education quality. He stressed that digital transformation is one of the main pillars of the plan to reform the educational system, and that the success of technical initiatives depends on their contribution to empowering teachers, developing the school environment, and improving learning outcomes.

On another note, the Education Minister, as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Kuwait Association for Learning Differences (KALD), received Amal Al-Sayer to discuss ways to enhance joint cooperation in educational and pedagogical fields, and to develop programs and initiatives supporting students with learning differences. During the meeting, the results of survey studies conducted by the association regarding dyslexia and dysgraphia were reviewed, and ways to utilize these findings to develop educational practices and enhance teachers’ ability to address students’ needs were discussed.
