A Kuwaiti medical project that relies on artificial intelligence for dental restoration has been ranked among the top seven Arab innovations, following the conclusion of the Arab Innovators and Creatives Conference in the Omani capital, Muscat.

Dr. Kawsar Ali, Assistant Professor at the College of Dentistry, Kuwait University, and supervisor of the project, told the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) on Wednesday that her project placed sixth in the Invention Structures and Innovations competition during the conference. The project consists of an application that uses artificial intelligence to determine a tooth’s suitability for restoration.

She added that the application is built on research foundations and evidence from clinical data and X-rays of patients whose outcomes were monitored to train the algorithm. She noted that the experimental application achieved high accuracy, reaching 90 percent after internal validation research.

Dr. Ali pointed out that the project had previously won local awards in Kuwait for digital solutions, including the Nexus startup competition and a competition organized by the College of Life Sciences for participants in the Fourth Kuwait International Conference on Life Sciences.

She expressed hope that her innovation would win international awards in the future, be implemented across all countries starting with Arab Gulf states, and contribute to improving diagnostic accuracy, accelerating treatments, and streamlining workflows in clinics, laboratories, and entities linked to the medical sector.

She further mentioned that she participated in other conference activities hosted by the Open University in Muscat, including discussion panels aimed at promoting the application and addressing challenges facing innovation.

Dr. Ali expressed her gratitude and appreciation to the Research Authority of Oman for hosting the scientific event and providing a platform for Arab innovators and creatives to meet, exchange ideas, and share expertise.

The Arab Innovators and Creatives Conference began on Monday, focusing on mechanisms to support the transition from idea to product, enhancing the innovation and patent environment, and building sustainable Arab cooperation networks. A delegation from the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research and Kuwait University participated in the event.

The Omani Research Authority organized the three-day conference in collaboration with the Omani National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, the Open University, and in coordination with the Arab Organization for Education, Culture and Science (ALECSO). The event was attended by a distinguished group of Arab innovators, experts, specialists, researchers, and entrepreneurs.
