Cairo - Khadija Hamouda and Naha Imam: The House of Representatives announced the conclusion of debates and approval by a two-thirds majority to authorize President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi to take necessary measures to support the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, following coordination between the two brotherly countries to defend its territory, sovereignty, and holy sites against any external aggression, in accordance with the agreement reached by the National Defense Council at its session held on October 18.
The Council clarified in a statement that, in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution and the House of Representatives’ internal regulations, the Council’s advisor summoned members to convene in closed sessions lasting October 18, 19, and 26, at the request of the President of the Republic.
On another note, President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi emphasized Egypt’s commitment to strengthening United Nations efforts and restoring confidence in the multilateral system, including through adherence to the UN Charter. He reaffirmed Egypt’s support for preserving the UN’s central role, which is reflected in Egypt being among the largest contributors of distinguished personnel to peacekeeping operations, as well as hosting dozens of UN offices and agencies.
This came during President el-Sisi’s reception yesterday of UN Secretary-General António Guterres and the accompanying delegation, in the presence of Minister of Foreign Affairs and Egyptians Abroad, Badr Abdelatty.
Spokesman for the Presidency, Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy, stated that the President stressed the necessity of international efforts converging to support the UN’s role in settling conflicts through peaceful means.
In this context, the Secretary-General noted that he often wondered about the fate of the Palestinian people were it not for Egypt’s fundamental and active role in supporting their rights and defending their cause. He welcomed Egyptian efforts aimed at consolidating the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, expressing his deep appreciation for Egypt’s role in facilitating the entry of humanitarian aid into the Strip and ensuring its delivery to those entitled to receive it.
