U.S. President Donald Trump said he faces two options regarding Iran: “either reach an agreement with them or eliminate them.” In remarks to Fox News, Trump added, “I have two options: either end Iran, which is very easy, or reach an agreement” with them, stressing that Washington is working to ensure that Tehran never acquires a nuclear weapon. He continued, “The Iranians are not making major moves regarding nuclear facilities, and we are monitoring the situation” there. He added, “My current question is: Do I reach an agreement with the Iranians, or do I eliminate them once and for all?”
Earlier, the U.S. president said there was a possibility that the United States could launch an attack on Iran, as well as another possibility of reaching a “big and good” agreement with them. Trump told reporters the day before, “We are considering launching an attack on Iran, and it could happen tomorrow, but I will not disclose the timing of any potential military operation.” He added, “I have dealt with Iran very effectively, and I may have to end the mission there, or the Iranians may reach an agreement with us.” He continued, “I am not sure whether Tehran will reach an agreement or not, but we will win in either case.”
In later remarks at a campaign rally, Trump affirmed that the United States had thwarted Iran’s nuclear ambitions “at the right time” and destroyed its uranium enrichment capabilities, emphasizing that Washington would not allow Tehran to possess a nuclear weapon. He said U.S. military operations against Tehran had succeeded in achieving their objectives, stressing that the United States had “crushed Iran financially and economically.”
