Kuwait: Committed to UN Principles and Supporting Efforts to Preserve International Peace and Security

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed the State of Kuwait’s steadfast commitment to the principles and purposes of the United Nations Charter, its support for efforts to preserve international peace and security, the settlement of disputes by peaceful means, and the addressing of global challenges, foremost among them humanitarian crises, climate change, and terrorism, as well as its backing of international disarmament efforts and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.

In a statement issued yesterday on the occasion of United Nations Day, observed annually on October 24, the Ministry expressed Kuwait’s pride in its historic partnership with the United Nations since its accession to the Organization in 1963, marked by fruitful cooperation and mutual solidarity. The Ministry also commended the role played by the Organization, its bodies, and its agencies in coordinating responses to humanitarian and development needs, emphasizing Kuwait’s commitment to continuing its contributions in both humanitarian and development fields, and its active participation in various UN forums.

The Ministry stressed the importance of developing multilateral mechanisms to enhance the United Nations’ capacity to keep pace with international developments and to establish a just international system based on respect for international law, state sovereignty, and the preservation of states’ independence. It called for concerted efforts to consolidate a culture of peace and promote the values of dialogue, tolerance, and mutual understanding, thereby fulfilling the aspirations of the world’s peoples for a future characterized by security, stability, and prosperity.
