The Ambassador of the Republic of Djibouti to Kuwait, Issa Khairi Robleh, emphasized the importance of the humanitarian and relief role played by the State of Kuwait in supporting peoples affected by crises and disasters, praising the contributions of the Kuwait Red Crescent Society in aiding the needy and promoting values of solidarity and human fraternity on the international level.
Robleh told KUNA after meeting with the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Kuwait Red Crescent Society, Khaled Al-Mugams, that the Kuwaiti aid provided to the Republic of Djibouti over the past decades reflects the deep historical relations between the two countries and embodies a firm humanitarian approach based on extending a helping hand to those in need without discrimination.
He added that the Kuwait Red Crescent Society is a pioneering model in relief work and a source of pride for humanitarian workers, due to the initiatives and projects it undertakes that contribute to alleviating the suffering of affected populations, improving their living conditions, and enhancing the standing of the State of Kuwait in the field of international humanitarian action.
Robleh clarified that the meeting discussed the humanitarian situation of Yemeni refugees in Djibouti, whose number is estimated at around 4,000, the majority of whom are women and children. He pointed out their urgent need for shelter, tents, food supplies, medicines, and potable drinking water, amid the continuing repercussions of the armed conflict in Yemen.
He called for expanding cooperation and partnership between the Kuwait Red Crescent Society and the Djibouti Red Crescent to enhance humanitarian response and meet the growing needs of refugees, affirming his country’s commitment to developing the distinguished relations with the State of Kuwait and elevating them to broader horizons of joint humanitarian cooperation.
For his part, Khaled Al-Mugams, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Kuwait Red Crescent Society, stated in a similar remark to KUNA that the Society has continued for more than four decades to provide humanitarian and relief aid to the Republic of Djibouti, in line with its mission of supporting affected communities and responding urgently to the needs of the most vulnerable groups during crises and disasters.
Al-Mugams said that the Society’s humanitarian work in Djibouti has included implementing numerous relief programs to address the repercussions of drought, famine, floods, and flash floods, alongside supporting water projects and food security, and providing medical and shelter supplies to the most needy families.
He added that the Society closely follows the humanitarian situation of Yemeni refugees in Djibouti and has prepared an initial plan to respond to their basic needs, which includes providing shelter, drinking water, health services, protection supplies, and essential relief materials, in coordination with the Djibouti Red Crescent.
Al-Mugams explained that cooperation with humanitarian institutions in Djibouti constitutes an important pillar to ensure the effectiveness of relief interventions and the rapid delivery of aid to its rightful beneficiaries, emphasizing the importance of joint coordination and information exchange to identify humanitarian priorities and direct support toward the most affected groups.
He noted that the continuation of Kuwaiti humanitarian initiatives in the Republic of Djibouti reflects the strength of the fraternal relations between the two countries and underscores the Kuwait Red Crescent Society’s commitment to continuing its mission of alleviating human suffering and enhancing the State of Kuwait’s presence in the fields of relief and international solidarity.
