UAE Announces Thwarting of Nearly 750,000 Cyberattack Attempts

The UAE government’s Cybersecurity Council announced on Tuesday that the national cybersecurity system had detected and thwarted approximately 750,000 cyberattack attempts targeting several critical sectors, notably energy and education. The Emirates News Agency (WAM) quoted the council in a statement saying that the attacks included remote code execution, distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks, phishing, and attacks powered by artificial intelligence technologies. The council clarified that detection and response operations are conducted within an integrated national system relying on continuous monitoring, early detection, advanced analysis, and proactive response, thereby enhancing the protection of digital infrastructure and critical sectors. It emphasized that the rise in the number of detected attack attempts does not indicate successful breaches, but rather reflects the effectiveness of national capabilities in identifying threats, managing them, and mitigating their risks, while reaffirming the commitment to further develop national capacities and leverage advanced technologies and artificial intelligence to strengthen cybersecurity defenses.
