In the context of its awareness-raising efforts aimed at enhancing nutritional literacy and encouraging members of society to adopt healthy lifestyles, the Public Authority for Food and Nutrition (PAFN) has emphasized the importance of reading food product labels before purchase, as they provide information that helps consumers compare products and make more informed and healthier dietary choices.

In an awareness post, the Authority explained that daily food choices, no matter how minor they may seem, can contribute to a positive impact on human health in the long term. It stressed the importance of paying attention to product ingredients and their nutritional value, rather than relying solely on the product’s appearance or brand name.

The Authority underscored the necessity of choosing products lower in sodium, saturated fats, and added sugars, while minimizing trans fats as much as possible, highlighting the significance of these choices in supporting a balanced diet and promoting overall health.

It called on consumers to compare the nutritional labels of similar products, reviewing serving sizes, calories, and amounts of fats, sugars, and sodium, to help them determine the most suitable options for their dietary needs. The Authority affirmed that awareness of nutritional information is a fundamental step toward building sustainable healthy habits, and that making informed decisions when purchasing food contributes to improving dietary quality and preventing health risks associated with unbalanced eating habits.

The Authority concluded its awareness message by reiterating that small choices today make a difference in tomorrow’s health, urging people to make reading food labels a daily habit that contributes to protecting health and enhancing quality of life.

On another note, a delegation from the Public Authority for Food and Nutrition, led by Acting Director General Abeer Al-Rumah, met with the Governor of Farwaniya, Sheikh Adbi Al-Nasser, in the presence of several Authority executives. The meeting aimed to strengthen cooperation and joint coordination between the two parties.

During the meeting, ways to develop food control and inspection activities were discussed, including intensifying inspection tours and raising the level of compliance with health requirements in markets and food establishments, thereby contributing to ensuring food safety and protecting consumer health.
