Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousif affirmed that security agencies are continuing to dismantle drug smuggling networks, counter all their methods, and pursue those involved without leniency, emphasizing that protecting society and its members from this scourge is a security priority, and that attempts to smuggle drugs into the country will be met with firm measures.
The deputy prime minister’s remarks came on the sidelines of his supervision over an operation conducted by the General Administration for Combating Narcotics, which involved foiling an attempt to smuggle 300,000 Captagon tablets, valued at more than half a million dinars, and arresting a Turkish truck driver linked to the shipment.
The Ministry of Interior stated that the operation took place in the Kabd area following investigative efforts, during which anti-narcotics officers discovered the drugs hidden secretly inside the truck’s spare tire, concealed using an insulating material. The General Fire Department was called upon to cut open the tire and extract the seized items.
The ministry added that, when confronted, the suspect admitted to bringing the tablets from one of the neighboring countries through a border crossing, entering Kuwait on a transit visa aboard the truck he was driving. Coordination was established with the anti-narcotics agency in the country of origin.
The Ministry of Interior confirmed that the suspect and the seized items have been referred to the competent authorities to take the necessary legal actions against him.
Present at the operation were Major General Fahad Al-Badr, Head of the Criminal Security Sector; Major General Mohammed Qabazard, Director General of the General Administration for Combating Narcotics; and Major General Sheikh Hamad Al-Yousif, Assistant Director General of the General Administration for Combating Narcotics.
