During his visit, he stressed that the attacks and violations suffered by citizens in southern Lebanon at the hands of the Israeli occupation are “unacceptable.”
Fahmy commented on what he witnessed during his tour, which was accompanied by Minister of Social Affairs Haneen al-Sayyid. He visited the Benoit Barakat barracks in the city of Sidon and met with Major General Nicola Thabit, commander of the South Litani sector, along with senior army officers. He stated, “The Israeli attacks and violations suffered by citizens in southern Lebanon are unacceptable,” emphasizing “the responsibility of the Arab and international communities to support Lebanon and strengthen the capacities of its institutions, enabling it to confront challenges and facilitate the return of its people to their homes.”
Fahmy clarified that “the Arab stance is based on supporting the Lebanese state and its ability to provide services to citizens, as well as enhancing the capabilities of the Lebanese Armed Forces and their national role.” He affirmed that “supporting Lebanon constitutes a political commitment by the Arab community and the Arab League, aimed at addressing the root causes of the crisis and providing the necessary resources for Lebanese institutions to carry out their duties.”
