Kuwait officials confirm that Dr. Sabih Al-Makhzoum, Minister of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy, stated that developing the energy sector is a national responsibility that requires a clear vision and integrated institutional action, balancing the fulfillment of current needs with preparation for future requirements, and enhancing the state’s capacity to keep pace with demographic, urban, and economic growth.
This came during his chairing of the third meeting of the Supreme Energy Committee, to review the progress of its technical teams’ work and present the outputs of the consultancy study on the implementation plan for the energy sector transformation 2035.
Al-Makhzoum said that the success of the energy sector transformation is measured by our ability to translate plans into projects on the ground, thereby enhancing supply reliability, raising resource use efficiency, and supporting energy mix diversification and the expansion of renewable energy, in line with the priorities and developmental needs of the State of Kuwait. He stressed the importance of defining implementation priorities and clarifying roles and responsibilities among relevant entities, linking work stages to measurable performance indicators, which enables progress monitoring, addressing challenges, and supporting timely decision-making.
Al-Makhzoum appreciated the efforts of the technical teams and participating entities, emphasizing that the integration of governmental, scientific, and technical expertise contributes to developing practical solutions based on studies and data, and enhances planning and implementation efficiency. He affirmed that what is achieved today in the energy sector will have an impact on future generations, which necessitates continuing work with a team spirit to build a more efficient, flexible, and sustainable energy system that supports the development path of the State of Kuwait.
During the meeting, the committee reviewed the presentation by the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy on the progress of the technical teams’ follow-up team’s work, including the framework, achievements of the three technical teams, and the main challenges they face, along with the directives required from the committee to support the work process. The committee also reviewed the presentation submitted by the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences regarding the outputs of the consultancy study for the implementation plan for the energy sector transformation 2035, which covered the targets for 2035 and 2060, the growth charter, the project portfolio, policies and studies, as well as the governance model and performance measurement indicators.
