Cairo – Kholoud Abu al-MajdActresses Yousra and Laila Elwi raised questions about the risks of artificial intelligence and its impact on humanity and the future of creativity during their participation in the “The Future Speaks Arabic” panel, held as part of the ninth edition of the El Gouna Film Festival. Yousra called for a conscious approach to modern technologies, warning against relying entirely on them for obtaining information or generating ideas, while Laila Elwi issued a striking warning about the objectives that may lie behind the development of this technology.
Yousra emphasized the importance of dealing with artificial intelligence technologies responsibly, stressing the need to supply them with the information and knowledge possessed by users, and not to rely solely on the content they provide without verifying its accuracy and sources. She also warned against AI becoming a substitute for human thought and imagination, noting that relying on it to generate ideas, write screenplays, or design characters necessitates careful attention to the limits of using these technologies.
For her part, Laila Elwi issued a sharp warning about the dangers of artificial intelligence, expressing her concerns over its potential repercussions on humanity. She said in her panel: “AI is designed to kill us and achieve its purpose, and the total number of people worldwide will be one billion.”
Elwi’s warnings extended to the impact of technology on children. She called for the establishment of age restrictions on internet and social media use, to limit their exposure to negative influences and help them develop the awareness needed to engage with the digital world responsibly.
