Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Dr. Badr Abdelatty, in a meeting held today, Saturday, with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi, stressed the need to de-escalate tensions and swiftly restore calm and stability in the region.
The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a press release that the two sides discussed, during the meeting held on the sidelines of the 52nd session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Foreign Ministers’ Council in the Iraqi capital Baghdad, ways to reach an agreement that would help contain the current crisis and prevent the conflict from widening.
The statement added that Abdelatty emphasized the necessity of ensuring freedom of international navigation and the regular flow of trade through maritime routes, which would help mitigate the negative repercussions of the crisis on the global economy, particularly given the significant disruptions it has caused in energy and fertilizer supply chains and international trade.
Furthermore, according to the statement, Abdelatty underscored the importance of respecting the security and stability of the Arab Gulf states and all countries in the region, and called for an immediate halt to all hostile acts targeting Saudi Arabia, condemning those unjustified attacks.
