Abdulaziz Jassim: Al-Arabi and Al-Qadsiah, representing Kuwaiti football, begin their campaigns tomorrow in the AFC Challenge League, with both teams targeting a spot in the second round. The group stage will be played in a round-robin format, with each team playing three matches, all concluding next Friday.

The “Yellows” (Al-Arabi) will host Group 3 matches at the Mohammed Al-Hamad Stadium. They will kick off their campaign at 8:30 PM tomorrow against Bengaluru FC’s Fortis, preceded by a Group 3 clash between Tajikistan’s Regar-TadAZ and India’s Goa.

Meanwhile, the “Greens” (Al-Qadsiah) will play their Group 2 fixtures in Tajikistan. They will face Syria’s Al-Hamraa on the day after tomorrow at 2:00 PM. In the same group, Lebanon’s Al-Najma will meet Tajikistan’s Istiqlol Dushanbe.

The winner of each group, along with the best runner-up among the three groups, will advance to the quarter-finals.

Al-Qadsiah enters tomorrow’s match against an opponent that is somewhat enigmatic, particularly because the rival is making its first-ever away appearance. Consequently, coach Mohammed Ibrahim faces the challenge of analyzing the opponent and its players. He will start the match with his full strength, using the early stages to assess his options and gradually introduce players, as he fully recognizes that physical endurance will be the decisive factor in these matches. The technical staff must manage this aspect optimally to achieve their goal of topping the group and ultimately qualifying.

Al-Qadsiah boasts a distinctive squad, led by star player Bader Al-Mutawa, alongside Moroccan expatriates Ayoub El-Kaabi and Hamza Khalfa, Omani internationals Nasser Al-Rawahi and Abdulrahman Al-Meshfari, and Ivorian player Cedric Gboho.

For his part, Al-Arabi understands the need to strike hard and overcome Al-Hamraa in their opening fixture. They are fully aware that their group is strong, with all teams possessing Asian experience; thus, any stumble could severely diminish their chances of reaching the second round.

Current national team coach Mohammed Abdulnabi knows that conditions were not favorable when he served as assistant to Croatian manager Goran Sablic, but he can now change that narrative by leading the team to their first victory of the season across all competitions.
