The College of Science at Kuwait University, in collaboration with SLB, inaugurated the Petroleum Services Laboratory to enhance applied education, strengthen the technical skills of geology and petroleum geology students and master’s candidates, and support scientific research by faculty members.
In a speech marking the occasion, College of Science Dean Dr. Haider Bahbahani stated that the laboratory provides specialized software and technologies for exploring petroleum reservoirs and studying subsurface geological formations, thereby bridging theoretical knowledge with practical applications and enabling students to become familiar with the technologies used in the oil industry.
Dr. Bahbahani emphasized the importance of collaboration between academic institutions and the oil sector in developing scientific and practical capabilities, noting that partnerships with specialized institutions contribute to enhancing the educational and research environment and strengthening the readiness of national talents to keep pace with scientific and technological advancements and labor market demands.
On her part, Assistant Dean for Planning, Consultations, and Training at the College of Science, Dr. Fawzia Abdullah, said the laboratory allows students to learn the latest software used in petroleum exploration and develop their technical skills through the use of specialized digital tools for studying geological formations and exploring petroleum reservoirs.
She added that developing scientific and training facilities enhances the quality of academic outputs, supports the integration of theoretical education with practical application, and opens broader horizons for leveraging expertise and technologies used in the oil sector, thereby contributing to the preparation of qualified national cadres in earth sciences and petroleum geology.
The laboratory’s inauguration was attended by several executives and officials from SLB, the Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC), and Kuwait Oil Company (KOC), alongside faculty members from the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at the College of Science.
