Prime Minister Dr. Nawaf Salam held talks with Army Commander General Rodolphe Oueidat on the country’s security situation, the deployment of the Lebanese Army, and its mission to extend state authority across the entire territory.
During his reception of General Oueidat at the Baabda Palace, Prime Minister Salam addressed the file of explosives seized recently, commending “the efforts of the Lebanese armed forces that led to the seizure of an additional quantity of explosives in the Qasr-Hermel area.” He stressed “the necessity of continuing investigations to uncover all those involved and the entities behind the smuggling operations, and referring them to the competent judiciary.”
Prime Minister Salam reaffirmed his full support for the Army in carrying out its duties, emphasizing “the importance of enhancing its capabilities and enabling it to protect the borders, safeguard the security of Lebanese citizens, and extend state authority across the entire territory.”
Earlier, Prime Minister Salam discussed with a parliamentary delegation that visited him at the Palace the path toward return, recovery, and reconstruction in areas damaged by Israeli aggression, particularly projects being implemented by the Public Works and Transport Authority (PWA) under the Lebanon Emergency Assistance Project (LEAP). He noted that “tenders for these projects have begun to enter the contracting phase in the southern districts,” adding, “The value of projects to be contracted before the end of the year is expected to reach approximately $70 million out of the loan allocated to the project, and residents of the South will see tangible results on the ground in the coming months.”
The discussions also covered projects for reinforcing and rehabilitating damaged buildings in Beirut’s southern suburbs, which are being undertaken by the Supreme Relief Commission.
