French President: We support the call for a real energy truce between Ukraine and Russia
French President Emmanuel Macron announced yesterday his country’s full support for the call for a genuine ceasefire in the energy sector between Ukraine and Russia, adding that Ukraine is open to this proposal. Macron stated in a post on the social media platform X that Ukraine is receptive to the call, noting that Russia continues to reject it and has intensified its attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure in recent hours. He affirmed that France will continue to stand by Ukraine and President Volodymyr Zelensky.
For his part, Zelensky posted on the same platform that Russian strikes targeted several power generation plants in Ukraine, following U.S. President Donald Trump’s announcement that the two sides had agreed to halt attacks on each other’s energy infrastructure. He added that a drone strike hit a power plant in the capital, Kyiv, causing a power outage, and later noted that a thermal power plant in the eastern city of Kharkiv had also been attacked. Zelensky pointed out that Ukrainian airspace had seen intense activity by Russian drones throughout the day.
Earlier today, the U.S. president announced that Russia and Ukraine had agreed to stop mutual strikes targeting each other’s energy facilities and infrastructure.
