The Syrian Ministry of Finance denied imposing any new taxes or fees on commercial and service sectors and professions. According to reports by the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), decisions circulating on social media platforms pertain to local authorities and are not related to its tax policies.
In a statement, the ministry clarified that information circulating on some social media platforms regarding the imposition of new taxes or fees by the Ministry of Finance on commercial and service sectors and professions is inaccurate. It noted that Decision No. 57, issued on September 27, 2026, belongs to the Executive Office of the Council of Azaz Municipality in Aleppo, and concerns professional licensing and administrative fees associated with practicing those professions. It is not linked to the Ministry of Finance or its tax departments.
The ministry explained that these fees fall under administrative licensing and annual professional practice fees collected by local administrative units to fund and develop their local services, and do not constitute new taxes imposed by the Ministry of Finance or the state.
The ministry emphasized that it has not imposed any new tax or fee, as the state’s tax policy is governed by central laws and decrees, and executive offices or local councils do not have the authority to impose new taxes.
