Verstappen Wins Singapore Grand Prix in Formula One

Dutch driver Max Verstappen of Red Bull completed an ideal weekend by claiming his first victory at the Singapore Grand Prix in the Formula One World Championship, held on the Marina Bay Street Circuit. He had already secured pole position for the sprint race on Saturday, from which he started at the front.
The achievement came in the 17th round (out of 23) in a striking manner on a circuit where the Dutchman had never previously won or even started from pole in nine prior attempts, since his debut with Toro Rosso in 2015.
The 62-lap Singapore Grand Prix is among the most physically and mentally demanding races on the Formula One calendar, due to the constant threat posed by the hard concrete walls surrounding the street circuit. Extremely high temperatures and humidity can cause drivers to lose three kilograms or more of fluids during a race that often extends to the maximum allowed duration of two hours.
Verstappen said, “It took some time, but I think this race was very good.” He celebrated back-to-back wins after triumphing in Malaysia a week earlier, securing his first victories of the 2026 season. He added, “We had the pace when we needed it on the soft and medium tires, so I’m very happy to win here.”
Monaco’s Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) finished second, while Italian Andrea Kimi Antonelli completed the podium in third place, extending his lead at the top of the championship standings by 100.2 points over his Mercedes teammate, British driver George Russell, who finished ninth after starting from 19th.
British McLaren driver Lando Norris finished fourth, ahead of his Australian teammate Oscar Piastri, with British Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton behind them. New Zealander Liam Lawson (Racing Bulls) finished seventh, followed by German Nico Hülkenberg (Audi), Russell (Mercedes), and Frenchman Isaac Hadjar (Red Bull).
