The European Union expressed its solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on Sunday regarding the attack launched by the Houthi militia on King Khalid International Airport in the capital, Riyadh, describing it as a “horrific terrorist act.”
In a statement posted on the social media platform X, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas emphasized that “random attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure cannot be justified.”
Kallas confirmed that the EU remains in contact with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan to assess the latest developments, extending heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and wishing a speedy recovery to the injured.
On another front, the European official stated that enhanced coordination between the EU’s maritime operation aimed at protecting navigation security and freedom of movement in the Red Sea (Aspides) and the Saudi-led multinational maritime defense coalition is “vital.”
She noted that EU foreign ministers will discuss the escalating tensions in the Middle East region tomorrow, Monday.
