United Properties announced the commencement of its development plan for the Fish Market located on the East Corniche waterfront, which includes temporarily relocating its operations to a newly equipped outdoor hall adjacent to the market, effective October 15, to ensure uninterrupted business throughout the implementation period.

Sulaiman Al-Asaker, Chief Executive Officer of Property Management at United Properties, stated, “United Properties views the Fish Market as a national project playing a vital role in supporting the food security system. The company is committed to enhancing this by improving market efficiency, upgrading the sales and shopping environment, and providing more organized and higher-quality facilities and services for vendors and consumers.”

Al-Asaker added, “This transition is being implemented in close coordination with government entities and relevant stakeholders to ensure smooth procedures and compliance with all regulatory and operational requirements. We extend our sincere gratitude to the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the Public Authority for Food and Nutrition, the Public Authority for Agriculture Affairs and Fish Resources, the General Fire Directorate, Kuwait Municipality, and all participating entities for their continuous cooperation and support in ensuring the success of this phase.”

As part of the development plan, the number of fish, fruit, vegetable, and other food stalls will increase from 214 to over 240, enabling the accommodation of more vendors and enhancing the diversity of products offered, including fresh, frozen, and live fish. Applications for stall allocation will be opened shortly.

During the implementation of the Fish Market development works, sales operations will move to a temporary outdoor hall next to the current market building, designated to accommodate the stalls and ensure continuous, uninterrupted business.

The hall’s preparations include providing an air-conditioned environment and suitable cooling systems for fish preservation, adhering to safety, hygiene, and operational efficiency standards. Additionally, a clear operational pathway will be established to transport fish from the sea to the hall, ensuring smooth and efficient delivery to the sales area while maintaining product quality during transit.

United Properties is also facilitating access to and egress from the hall, organizing visitor flow, and providing dedicated vehicles to transport market visitors between parking areas and the outdoor hall.

The Fish Market development will include numerous engineering and service improvements, such as designating an independent area for fish cleaning to maintain the hygiene of sales zones, upgrading ventilation and drainage systems, organizing the display of local and imported fish, and adding restaurants specializing in cooking fresh fish.

United Properties emphasized that the project’s planning and design are based on a vision that preserves the Fish Market’s identity and historical significance, enhances its authenticity, and aligns with future needs to serve the community.

Al-Asaker stated, “After its development, the Fish Market will rank among the premier fish markets in the Gulf region.”

Regarding the Corniche Development Plan (Phase III) – East Market, Al-Asaker said, “United Properties’ vision for developing the East project focuses on highlighting the unique value of each component in this distinguished area, with the Fish Market taking precedence due to its economic and social role and its provision of marine bounty, which forms an essential part of the Kuwaiti table.”
