Shorter and more frequent trips: How the world will travel in 2027

Travelers no longer need to dedicate a full week to a trip that offers a sense of renewal, as a growing segment is turning to short, intensive getaways that can be easily integrated with work and daily commitments, according to Hilton’s 2027 Travel Trends Report.

The report, prepared in collaboration with Morning Consult based on a survey of 14,744 adults in 14 countries who plan to travel within the next 12 months, found that 67% prefer trips that allow them to experience multiple activities in a limited timeframe, a trend Hilton describes as “micro-travel.”

The concept of a short trip varies across markets: most American travelers consider a trip of fewer than three or four days to be short, while Japanese travelers tend to view trips of less than two days as short. Additionally, 54% reported feeling some pressure to achieve the “perfect trip.”

The report also highlights a trend toward more flexible travel that blends comfort, adventure, and personal growth, with growing interest in nature and experiences that fit travelers’ schedules and priorities, rather than pursuing an idealized, packed itinerary.
