Billions alone are no longer sufficient to describe the fortunes of technology moguls, as the artificial intelligence revolution has ignited an unprecedented wealth-building race. In this new era, tens of billions of dollars are added to or evaporate from the accounts of the world’s richest individuals within weeks, driven by stock price fluctuations and corporate valuations.

According to Forbes estimates, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos saw his wealth surge by approximately $102 billion last September, bringing his net worth close to $370 billion. This increase was fueled by the revaluation of his private companies, Blue Origin and Prometheus, which are now valued at over $130 billion and $41 billion, respectively.

Bezos was not the sole beneficiary. Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg added roughly $55 billion to his wealth within a month, as the company’s stock rose by more than 30%, bolstered by investor optimism regarding the future returns on its AI investments.

However, these gains have a flip side. Oracle founder Larry Ellison saw approximately $200 billion evaporate from his wealth compared to its peak of nearly $400 billion, following a decline in the company’s shares amid concerns over the scale of spending on data centers and expected returns.

Notably, these billions do not necessarily represent cash; rather, they reflect paper gains and losses stemming from changes in market capitalization and private company valuations. Consequently, the fortunes of billionaires are now tied to investor expectations regarding the future of artificial intelligence, rising and falling accordingly.
