Academic Accreditation Authority participates in Arab forum for quality assurance in higher education in Doha

Dr. Jassem Al-Ali, Acting Director General of the National Authority for Academic Accreditation and Quality Assurance of Education, participated in the activities of the 2026 Arab Network for Quality Assurance in Higher Education Forum, held today in Doha under the theme “Anticipating Opportunities in the Age of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Transformation.”
In her address at the forum, Qatar’s Minister of Education and Higher Education, Lolwah Al-Khater, emphasized that the concept of quality in education is no longer limited to meeting requirements, but has become linked to the extent of the educational process’s impact on students, institutions, and society.
Al-Khater noted that the Qatar National Commission for Academic Accreditation and Quality Assurance of Education has, since its establishment in 2022, sought to benefit from regional and international expertise and experiences. She pointed out that more than 50% of Qatar’s higher education institutions are now engaged in the Commission’s processes, whether accredited, candidates for accreditation, or conducting self-studies.
She highlighted that higher education systems in the Arab region encompass more than 13 million students across approximately 1,200 higher education institutions, noting that the breadth and diversity of these systems and their programs make the issue of quality more urgent and important.
For her part, Dr. Joaha Abdullah, Chair of the Arab Network for Quality Assurance in Higher Education, affirmed that artificial intelligence applications and digital transformation have become an integral part of learning practices, scientific research, and knowledge production.
Abdullah clarified that the real challenge lies not in accepting or rejecting artificial intelligence, but in how to deploy it responsibly and ethically to enhance learning, develop capabilities, and simultaneously preserve the authenticity of academic work and the credibility of its outputs. She stressed the need to develop assessment methods capable of measuring analytical, critical, creative, and problem-solving skills.
The forum discussed the future of accreditation and quality assurance systems amid rapid developments in artificial intelligence and digital transformation, and explored ways to develop assessment tools, enhance academic integrity, and shift from meeting quality requirements to measuring the impact of education and its outcomes on students, institutions, and society.
The participation of the National Authority for Academic Accreditation and Quality Assurance of Education comes within the framework of strengthening cooperation with regional and international bodies and networks, exchanging expertise and best practices, and supporting the development of the academic accreditation and quality assurance system in the State of Kuwait.
