The 22nd Arab Conference of Heads of Traffic Police Agencies, concluding its sessions in Tunisia, called for unifying the Arab awareness discourse on road safety and enhancing coordination among relevant authorities in Arab countries to consolidate a culture of safety among road users and reduce traffic accidents.

In a statement, the General Secretariat of the Council of Arab Ministers of the Interior noted that the conference emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation and exchanging expertise among Arab traffic agencies, urging member states to prepare and share joint awareness messages and materials addressing key traffic behaviors and risks, thereby benefiting from successful experiences and practices in this field.

It added that the conference stressed the need to coordinate traffic awareness campaigns among Arab countries, especially during related occasions and events, and to adopt unified messages that can be disseminated across various media and social media platforms, thereby enhancing the effectiveness of road safety awareness efforts.

The participants highlighted the importance of developing the traffic awareness discourse by strengthening cooperation, exchanging expertise, and utilizing traffic data, statistics, and studies to direct awareness messages toward behaviors that have the greatest impact on road safety.

The conference also stressed the importance of establishing a comprehensive Arab Road Safety Observatory as a regional mechanism to enhance cooperation and the exchange of information and expertise among Arab countries in the field of traffic regulation and reducing road accidents, welcoming ongoing efforts to establish it through cooperation between the Moroccan side and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA).

Furthermore, the conference requested that the General Secretariat of the Council of Arab Ministers of the Interior disseminate the “Marrakech Declaration” issued by the Fourth Ministerial Conference on Road Safety, held in Marrakech, Morocco, to traffic agencies in Arab countries, so they can benefit from its contents to enhance road safety.

The conference, held under the auspices of the General Secretariat of the Council of Arab Ministers of the Interior in Tunisia, was attended by representatives from the interior ministries of Arab countries, including a delegation from the State of Kuwait comprising Colonel Fahad Al-Khalidi, Director of the Ahmadi Traffic Licensing Department; Colonel Abdullah Burahma, Director of the Capital City Traffic Patrols; and First Lieutenant Fatima Al-Dhowadi, from the International Relations Department.
