Decker Stumbles Significantly: Tom Cruise's Blockbuster Opens with Only $20 Million

Tom Cruise’s film “Deeper” opened weakly at the box office, grossing approximately $8 million in North America during its opening weekend to finish in fifth place, marking one of Cruise’s weakest starts in recent years.

Directed by Mexican filmmaker Alejandro González Iñárritu and distributed by Warner Bros., the film earned around $12 million outside the U.S. market, bringing its global opening weekend total to just under $20 million.

Estimates of the production budget vary among sources, with reports placing it between $125 million and $180 million, while additional reports indicate that nearly $100 million was spent on marketing.

Euronews estimates that the film needs to earn around $300 million to approach the break-even point.

Given the modest opening, preliminary estimates suggest the film could incur losses of $150 million or more.
