Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud donated blood, thereby launching the 2026 annual national blood donation campaign. This generous humanitarian gesture reflects his continued commitment to humanitarian work and strengthening community health, as well as his ongoing support for national initiatives aimed at entrenching a culture of giving and volunteering, and motivating members of society to contribute to saving lives.
According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the Crown Prince’s donation embodies an inspiring national and humanitarian message, reflecting the values of solidarity and mutual support that underpin Saudi society. It underscores the importance of blood donation as a noble humanitarian act that saves lives, supports patients, and promotes a culture of volunteering and giving.
The campaign aims to raise awareness about the importance of regular voluntary blood donation, reinforce the concept of social responsibility, and contribute to achieving self-sufficiency in blood units and their components. Blood donation is one of the most critical humanitarian practices that help save the lives of patients, including those requiring emergency medical care, cancer patients, individuals with blood disorders, and critical cases.
This campaign continues the wise leadership’s approach of supporting humanitarian and health initiatives and enhancing community participation, thereby helping to increase voluntary blood donation rates and supporting the health system’s efforts to provide safe and sustainable supplies of blood and its components. This ensures the fulfillment of patients’ treatment needs across all regions of the Kingdom.
The Kingdom has achieved notable progress in strengthening the culture of voluntary blood donation. In 2025, the number of blood donors exceeded 900,000, within the framework of continuous efforts aimed at increasing the proportion of voluntary donations and enhancing the sustainability of the national blood supply. These efforts align with the targets of the Health Sector Transformation Program and Saudi Vision 2030, which seek to build a vibrant society where individuals enjoy better health and quality of life.
It is worth noting that the annual national blood donation campaign launched by the Crown Prince for 2025 had a broad health and social impact. It contributed to quadrupling the number of donors, recording the highest number of donors in the history of blood banks in the Kingdom, with more than 65,000 donors, representing a 100% voluntary donation rate, and over 85% first-time donors. This momentum directly supported patient needs, benefiting more than 63,000 individuals with blood units, 10,000 with platelets, and 10,000 with plasma. This has enhanced the readiness of blood banks and entrenched voluntary donation as a sustainable societal behavior.
