Qatar: Mediation efforts between US and Iran ongoing and uninterrupted

His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of the State of Qatar, received Iranian Minister of Interior Eskandar Momeni and his accompanying delegation at his office in the Diwan Amiri yesterday. The Qatari News Agency (QNA) reported that the meeting reviewed developments in the region and efforts aimed at de-escalation to enhance regional and international security and stability.
The meeting was attended by Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad Al Thani, Minister of Interior and Commander of the Internal Security Force (Lekhwa).
In this context, the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that mediation efforts between the United States and Iran are ongoing and uninterrupted, noting that these efforts aim to achieve progress that can be built upon and covers all issues of concern to both sides.
During the weekly press briefing at the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ibrahim Al-Hamadi, Director of the Media and Communications Department, stated that “discussions and the exchange of messages between Washington, Tehran, and Doha continue through Qatar and its regional partners,” emphasizing that resolving this issue requires making the best efforts through negotiable solutions while taking into account the concerns of all parties.
Regarding the case of the Iranian pilots, Al-Hamadi said, “Qatar has been clear from the outset that this file has been handled and the Iranian side has been informed of the latest developments,” adding that Qatar is open to an Iranian visit to review the measures taken in this regard.
On regional developments, he clarified that Qatar supports any initiatives undertaken by regional countries to preserve their security, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, including the Mecca Agreement for Joint Defense, noting that this alliance enhances regional cooperation related to preserving capabilities and the stability of regional states. He reiterated Qatar’s support for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in all measures it takes to safeguard its security and territorial integrity, stating, “We condemn the irresponsible approach adopted by the Houthi group in targeting the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Islamic holy sites, and civilian assets, and we support the Kingdom in all measures it takes to preserve its security and territorial integrity.”
He added, “Qatar supports any initiative undertaken by regional countries to preserve their security, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, including the Mecca Alliance,” noting that “this alliance enhances regional cooperation related to preserving capabilities and the stability of regional states.”
Meanwhile, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres confirmed that Pakistan played a crucial mediating role between Washington and Tehran, and called for an end to the war in the Middle East. Speaking to journalists in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, he said that Pakistan’s mediation between the United States and Iran, aimed at ending the war in the Middle East, has shown that it “is trusted, even by countries that are at odds with each other.”
He added, “I would like to send a strong and clear message to all parties: cease the conflict, return to diplomacy, and fully restore the rights and freedoms of navigation in accordance with international law.”
