The Perils of Drugs

Imagine how a single moment of curiosity can transform a person’s life from a future full of hope into a dark, inescapable path. This is drugs: a poison that infiltrates the body and mind, stealing a person’s health, family, and future. Drugs are among the most dangerous threats to both individuals and society, due to their severe physical and psychological harms. They impair health, weaken cognitive abilities and decision-making, and can lead to addiction, as well as family, social, and economic problems. Sadly, some young people turn to drugs because of bad company, a desire for experimentation, or a short-sighted mindset that fails to grasp the consequences. The harms of drug abuse do not stop at the user; they extend to their families and communities. Therefore, laws are designed to combat drugs and curb their trafficking and use by imposing legal penalties on those who traffic, promote, or consume them. These laws are stringent, as stipulated by legislation, and aim to protect society and limit the spread of this serious scourge. Thus, the success of such campaigns can be achieved by strengthening the element of punishment, which is one of the key features of legal norms.

In my view, law alone is insufficient; awareness, support, and treatment for those in need are also essential. Although the state has enacted strict laws and severe penalties for drug users and traffickers, addressing addiction requires the state’s professional and highly precise involvement. It would be advisable for the state to establish health resorts that shelter, protect, and rehabilitate drug-using citizens, rather than allowing drug traffickers to operate abroad. The legal efforts aimed at eradicating the drug phenomenon are being pursued with seriousness and success. Preventing drug abuse is a shared responsibility that begins with the family and school and extends to the cooperation of the entire community. College of Commercial Studies – Law Major
