Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy strongly condemned Israel’s completion of work on what is referred to as “Line Sofa 53” in Quneitra, affirming that it constitutes a blatant violation of the sovereignty of the Syrian Arab Republic and a flagrant breach of international law and the 1974 Disengagement Agreement.

In a statement on the “X” platform, the Secretary-General warned of the dangers posed by Israel’s continued commission of these systematic violations and repeated incursions deep into Syrian territory, which pose a serious threat to regional security and stability and risk expanding conflict fronts.

Fahmy reiterated calls for the UN Security Council to fulfill its responsibilities, curb Israel’s actions, compel it to respect the UN Charter and international law, and ensure its immediate withdrawal from Syrian territories occupied since December 8, 2024, as well as from the occupied Syrian Golan. He also demanded an end to Israel’s unacceptable provocative and aggressive practices and its attempts to encroach upon Syrian land.

The Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs had previously strongly condemned Israel’s ongoing violations of Syrian territory, particularly the completion of work on “Line Sofa 53,” stressing that these actions represent a flagrant breach of the 1974 Disengagement Agreement and a blatant violation of resolutions upholding international legitimacy.

It called on the international community to take deterrent measures to halt these practices and prevent their recurrence, reaffirming Syria’s firm commitment to its legitimate right to exercise full sovereignty over all its territory.
