The Yemeni Armed Forces announced the recapture of the city of Mokha in western Taiz Governorate, following fierce clashes and with air cover from the coalition supporting legitimacy. This comes hours after Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council Chairman Rashad al-Alimi announced the launch of the “Yemen Dawn” operation to restore state institutions and liberate the capital, Sanaa.
The state-run Yemeni News Agency (Saba) quoted a military source as saying that forces comprising the “Homeland Shield,” “Giants Brigades,” and “Tahami Resistance,” backed by popular resistance and supported by air power, gained control of the strategic Red Sea city after clashes with Houthi militias, which had held it since early September.
The source clarified that fighting took place in several locations surrounding Mokha, involving various types of weapons, and resulted in casualties and injuries among the militia ranks, the capture of several of its members, and the flight of others.
He noted that the armed forces are continuing to pursue Houthi militia elements, conducting clearance operations in liberated sites, neighborhoods, and facilities to eliminate any remaining militia pockets.
The Yemeni Armed Forces affirmed their continued execution of military operations in accordance with directives aimed at ending the Houthi militia coup.
