The American Chamber of Commerce hosted a roundtable meeting on Syria at the headquarters of Citibank in New York City, with participation from representatives of several American investment, commercial, and financial companies, as well as Syrian Finance Minister Mohammad Yasser Baruni and Central Bank of Syria Governor Mohammad Safwat Rusal. The Syrian Ministry of Finance announced via its Telegram channel yesterday that the meeting addressed the latest economic, financial, and sectoral developments in Syria, as well as the steps taken by the government to enhance and facilitate investment and to consolidate compliance and integrity standards. Reforms underway at the Ministry of Finance and the Central Bank of Syria were presented, and the new tax policy, including incentives for investors, was explained. Participants discussed the steps that American companies and institutions intend to take in the coming period, and reviewed various sectors and investment opportunities available to specialized American firms, contributing to the expansion of economic and financial cooperation and opening new horizons for investment in Syria. Meanwhile, the U.S. Department of the Treasury hosted a similar meeting in New York two days ago, with the participation of the minister and the governor, to discuss steps for rehabilitating the Syrian banking sector and strengthening its ties with the global financial community.
