Algeria and Mauritania Condemn Attack on Medina and Desecration of Islamic Holy Sites

Algeria expressed its strong condemnation of the attack targeting an electricity distribution station in Medina, a city that hosts this hostile act against a vital civilian facility providing essential services to the city’s residents and to the Noble Prophet’s Mosque. In a statement by its Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Algeria reaffirmed its full solidarity and unwavering support for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the face of these repeated attacks on its security, stability, and sovereignty. It stressed that targeting civilian facilities and critical infrastructure constitutes a violation of international law, and that attacking Medina further provokes the sentiments of Muslims around the world. Algeria also called for an immediate halt to these attacks, urging the primacy of responsibility and respect for the rules of international law to prevent further escalation and safeguard the security and stability of the region’s countries and peoples.
For its part, Mauritania strongly condemned the attack, expressing its profound disapproval in a statement issued by its Ministry of Foreign Affairs, emphasizing that such targeting infringes upon the sanctity of Islamic holy sites and reaffirming its solidarity and support for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The statement underscored Mauritania’s firm rejection of all acts targeting Saudi Arabia’s security and stability, and reiterated its full support for all efforts aimed at preserving the security of the region and the safety of the pilgrims.
