The Ministry of Interior reveals 5 suspects exploiting a charitable project to generate monthly profits

The Ministry of Interior announced that the Criminal Security Sector, represented by the General Directorate of Criminal Investigations, uncovered a case involving the exploitation of a charitable project for collecting in-kind donations, reselling them, and profiting personally. Five suspects were involved: three Syrian nationals and two Egyptian nationals, as part of ongoing security efforts to combat crime.

In a press statement, the Ministry said that investigations conducted by the Al-Jahra Governorate Criminal Investigations Department, represented by the Salwa Criminal Investigations Office, revealed that a furniture transport company had rented a website and a phone number belonging to a charitable association project through one of its employees, without the knowledge of the association’s members. The company used these channels to receive donations of clothing, electronic devices, furniture, and food items, misleading donors into believing the contributions were intended to support the project and achieve its objectives.

The statement added that the suspects collected the donations through several agents, then appropriated them and sold them in local markets or exported them abroad to profit from their monetary value, rather than directing them to the purposes for which they were collected.

It further noted that this activity was repeated under the cover of the charitable project, generating monthly profits of approximately 60,000 Kuwaiti dinars from the disposal of these donations. The company’s warehouse in the Umghara area was also located, and appropriate measures were taken regarding the seized items, with procedures related to the case being completed.
