US State Department confirms intensifying efforts to shut down all illegal revenue channels for the Iranian regime

The U.S. State Department confirmed on Thursday that Washington is intensifying all possible efforts to shut down every channel of “illegitimate” revenue for the Iranian regime as part of the “economic pariah” campaign. In a statement, the State Department said that sanctions imposed by the U.S. Treasury against Iran’s automotive and railway sectors, as well as a parallel Iranian banking network, aim to ramp up pressure to prevent Iran from circumventing sanctions and to cut off Tehran’s illicit revenue streams. The statement emphasized that the new sanctions seek to tighten economic measures against Iran and prevent it from accessing international markets, noting that they are part of a broader U.S. government strategy aimed at “depriving the Iranian regime of the resources it needs to threaten regional stability, sponsor terrorism, and advance its military ambitions.” It stressed that the U.S. State Department is working closely with other countries to cut off all means by which Iran generates illicit revenue and to ensure that governments and companies worldwide understand the risks associated with commercial dealings with the Iranian regime. The U.S. Treasury had previously announced that it was targeting networks within Iran’s automotive, railway, manufacturing, and steel sectors, as well as a “parallel” banking network, as part of the “economic pariah” campaign launched on August 24 to cut off all economic lifelines to the Iranian regime.
