The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jassem Al-Budaiwi, on Thursday strongly condemned the terrorist drone attack carried out by the Houthi militia, which targeted an electricity distribution station in Medina, Saudi Arabia, that provides services to the Noble Prophet’s Mosque and civilian institutions in the city.

In a statement, Al-Budaiwi said that this reprehensible Houthi aggression crossed all red lines and constituted a blatant provocation of the feelings of Muslims worldwide, representing a serious escalation in the violation of the sanctity of Islamic holy sites. It revealed an adversarial approach that disregards religious and human values, as well as international laws and norms, particularly given the repeated attempts to target the Two Holy Mosques and their surrounding areas.

Al-Budaiwi affirmed the GCC states’ unwavering and firm support for Saudi Arabia, expressing their full solidarity in confronting any threats to the kingdom’s security, stability, sovereignty, and holy sites. He also emphasized the GCC’s backing of all measures taken by Saudi Arabia to protect its territory, citizens, residents, and guests of God.

Furthermore, the GCC Secretary-General stressed that the security of Saudi Arabia and its holy sites is an inseparable part of the security of the GCC states, and that any threat to them constitutes a threat to the security of all GCC member states.
