Armenia’s Ambassador to Kuwait, Dr. Arsen Arakelian, affirmed the deep and distinguished relations between his country and Kuwait, highlighting the wide opportunities to enhance bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, tourism, education, and modern technology. He also praised Kuwait’s continuous support for Armenia and the Armenian community residing in the country.

This statement was made by Arakelian during a reception hosted by the embassy to mark the 35th anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Armenia. The event was attended by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Hamad Al-Mashaan, along with several ambassadors and heads of diplomatic missions accredited to Kuwait.

On this occasion, the ambassador conveyed sincere congratulations and best wishes from the leadership of the Republic of Armenia to the leadership and people of Kuwait. He expressed profound gratitude to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, and the Kuwaiti government for their ongoing support for Armenia and its embassy in Kuwait, as well as for the support Kuwait has provided to the Armenian community over the decades. He emphasized that this support reflects the depth of bilateral relations and the shared commitment to developing and strengthening cooperation between the two countries.

Regarding Kuwait-Armenia relations, Arakelian noted that diplomatic ties were established in 1994, with Armenia opening its embassy in Kuwait in 2010, followed by the opening of Kuwait’s embassy in Armenia in 2011.

He pointed out that bilateral cooperation has resulted in several agreements and memoranda of understanding in sectors such as the economy, investment, agriculture, tourism, culture, education, and air transport, among others. He stressed the importance of building on these achievements to open new avenues for cooperation.

Arakelian praised educational and cultural cooperation between the two countries, noting that Kuwait University has provided approximately 70 scholarships to Yerevan State University in recent years. He also highlighted the contribution of the Kuwaiti Al-Babtain Foundation, which enabled the Center for Arabic Literature at the university to continue its activities. He stated that these initiatives have significantly increased the number of students studying Arabic in Armenia, expressing his country’s appreciation for the Kuwaiti government and people for this support.

Arakelian revealed that both countries intend to take new steps to explore cooperation potential between their governments, while continuing coordination in multilateral forums. He expressed his hope that a high-level Kuwaiti delegation would participate in a major international event hosted by Armenia, including the 17th Conference of the Parties (COP17).

He considered the holding of the first Kuwait-Armenia Business Forum in January a significant milestone in the economic relations between the two countries. He explained that the Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry hosted the forum, coordinated by the Armenian embassy and in collaboration with the Kuwaiti embassy in Armenia and Ambassador Mohammed Al-Arifan.

The forum included meetings with officials, government entities, and Kuwaiti investment companies to discuss cooperation and investment opportunities. He noted that both sides are currently discussing the possibility of resuming meetings of the joint Kuwait-Armenia governmental committee.

He welcomed the participation of a Kuwaiti business delegation in the second edition of the business forum, scheduled to be held in Armenia. He emphasized that his country sees great potential for enhancing cooperation in trade, tourism, science, education, modern technology, student exchanges, sports, and culture.

He called for intensifying high-level visits and strengthening coordination between governmental committees, sectoral entities, and business delegations to open new horizons for economic and developmental partnership between Kuwait and Armenia.

He praised Kuwait’s regional and international role in promoting peace, dialogue, and the peaceful settlement of disputes, as well as its humanitarian efforts and assistance to areas affected by conflicts and disasters.

He expressed the Armenian government’s appreciation for Kuwait and its leadership for their supportive positions regarding efforts to enhance peace and stability in the South Caucasus. He reaffirmed his country’s rejection of resolving conflicts by force and its commitment to the rule of law in international relations, as well as the resolution of disputes, regardless of their complexity, through political and diplomatic means.
