Deputy Minister of Interior and head of 'Italian Prisons' discuss enhancing cooperation and exchanging expertise in managing correctional institutions

Deputy Minister of Interior Major General Abdulwahab Al-Wahib held talks with an Italian security official on ways to enhance cooperation and exchange expertise in the management of correctional institutions and the rehabilitation of inmates.

In a press statement, the Ministry of Interior said that Major General Al-Wahib met, on Wednesday, with Stefano Di Michele, the judge and head of Italy’s Prison Administration, along with several officials, in the presence of Kuwait’s Ambassador to Italy, Nasser Al-Qahtani.

During a visit to Rebibbia Prison in Rome, the Deputy Minister of Interior reviewed operational mechanisms, organizational and security procedures, as well as the latest systems and technologies employed, and the programs and practices adopted for inmate rehabilitation and reform, aiming to improve the efficiency of the overall system.

The Deputy Minister of Interior and the accompanying delegation conducted a field tour inside the prison, where they observed programs for inmate rehabilitation and social reintegration, operational management mechanisms within the facility, and the role of modern technologies in supporting the system and enhancing readiness levels.

According to the statement, the meeting was part of the Ministry of Interior’s commitment to strengthening cooperation and exchanging expertise with relevant Italian authorities, and benefiting from modern practices in inmate rehabilitation and reform to develop the operational system, enhance staff efficiency, and strengthen institutional capacities.

The Deputy Minister of Interior arrived in Rome, accompanied by the delegation, on Tuesday evening for an official visit as part of a program aimed at enhancing cooperation and exchanging expertise in several areas of security work.
