From AI to .SI: Trump's remark sharply boosts demand for Slovenia's domain names

Slovenia saw a sudden surge in registrations of .si domain names after U.S. President Donald Trump used the abbreviation “SI” when suggesting a replacement for the term “artificial intelligence” with “superintelligence.”

According to Register.si, the official body overseeing Slovenia’s national domain, total registered domains surpassed 200,000. Its data showed that on September 29, approximately 3,900 new domains were registered within 24 hours, compared with about 3,500 registrations over an entire month prior to the recent wave of interest.

On September 22, Trump told the United Nations General Assembly that the word “artificial” makes intelligence seem “fake,” announcing his preference for the term “superintelligence.” Reports citing The Associated Press noted that a U.S. State Department office subsequently instructed its staff to use the abbreviation “SI” in certain documents and situations.

Coincidentally, .si is Slovenia’s country-code top-level domain, making it attractive to companies and projects linked to new technologies.
