The United States announced yesterday the imposition of sanctions on 10 individuals and entities across multiple jurisdictions, aiming to dismantle Iranian military procurement networks, as part of the “Economic Outcast” campaign launched last month to isolate Iran from the global economic and financial system.
In a statement, the U.S. Department of the Treasury said that the sanctions imposed by its Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) “target the prevention of arms and weapons component supplies to the Iranian Ministry of Defense and the Armed Forces Logistics Support Command,” noting that the department “oversees organizations involved in the development of ballistic missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles (drones).”
U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent emphasized in the statement that his department “will continue to target and disrupt those who provide material, technological, or financial support that enables the Iranian regime to continue its terrorist activities,” stressing that it “will tolerate no support for the regime and will persist in identifying, exposing, and isolating entities that enable Iran’s activities.”
The ministry noted that these measures “further undermine the Iranian regime’s ability to rebuild its weapons programs and increase the cost for those who choose to assist Tehran’s military procurement efforts.”
It reiterated the warning that “any entity facilitating money laundering or circumventing sanctions on behalf of Iran risks being cut off from the U.S. financial system,” emphasizing the “possibility that entities continuing commercial dealings with the Iranian regime will face secondary sanctions,” and affirming that it will accelerate the pace of U.S. enforcement actions.
