Kuwait officials: The State Security and Terrorism Crimes Department at the Criminal Court issued several rulings in different cases yesterday. The court sentenced defendant “T.D.” in absentia to five years’ imprisonment with hard labor for insulting the emir, following allegations that he disparaged the institution of the emirate via his account on the X platform.
In absentia sentences of five years’ imprisonment with hard labor were also handed down to “M.M.” and “L.H.” for spreading and broadcasting false news about the country’s internal situation through their X accounts, with the court ordering the deletion of the offensive content.
The court ruled in person to acquit “M.S.” of one charge and to refrain from imposing a penalty for another, while ordering him to provide a guarantee of good conduct for two years with a bail of 5,000 dinars, following his appearance in a television interview on a satellite channel discussing the war situation and Iran’s regional policies.
The court sentenced “A.F.” in absentia to five years’ imprisonment with hard labor for insulting the emirate via his Twitter account, and sentenced “A.M.” to two years’ imprisonment with hard labor for retweeting the offensive post.
The court also sentenced the tweeter “M.M.” in absentia to three years’ imprisonment with hard labor for inciting sectarian strife in the country via his X account.
Finally, the court ruled that it lacked jurisdiction to hear the case accusing “M.F.”, thereby referring the case to another department for further consideration.
